Good Faith Estimate
You will receive a "Good Faith Estimate" of the costs for therapy when starting or resuming therapy, to help you anticipate the possible total cost.
Insurance
I am "out of network" for all insurance companies. This means you pay me directly for the full cost of your sessions (out of pocket).
But you may still be able to benefit from your insurance coverage (unless you are eligible for Medicare, see below). If you want to submit the charges to your insurance company for possible out-of-network benefits, let me know. We can discuss the appropriate diagnosis (required for insurance claims) and I can provide you with receipts that you would submit to your insurance company.
If you want to know how your insurance may help with the costs of therapy, please contact your insurance company to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services. Asking these questions to your insurer can help you understand and make use of your benefits:
- Does my health insurance plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?
- Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet? What happens once I've met it?
- Are the service (CPT) codes provided on the Good Faith Estimate covered by my insurance plan? Once we have decided upon a diagnosis (which may or may not be on the Good Faith Estimate), find out if that diagnostic code is covered as well.
Medicare
As a provider, I have "opted out" of Medicare. This means that, even if you are eligible for Medicare, you cannot submit any of the charges for therapy to Medicare. The costs of therapy will be entirely out-of-pocket.
Why don't you take insurance?
I realize that by staying independent from the insurance system, I won't be able to work with some folks who really need it. I believe, however, that this ensures me remaining more available to the clients I do work with (not buried under administrative demands), better protects your private information, and gives you more control over your own treatment.
Cancellation Policy
If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours in advance, you be charged for the full rate of the session.
Anything else?
Please contact me for any additional questions you may have. I look forward to hearing from you!
